I gotta say....60% of this book, I couldn't wait to be done with it. It didn't hold my attention at all. And then WHAM! I was suddenly very invested...with only 40% of the book to go. LOL

Harkness has a unique take on three types of 'creatures' living alongside humans: vampires, witches, and daemons. I had trouble relating to any of the main characters at the beginning of the book - Diana is a historian who researched alchemy. Uh. really? REALLY?! Who can wrap their head around that?

I found that as the book went on and new characters were introduced, they softened the hard edges of the two main characters, Matthew and Diana. That helped immensely.

I actually am eager to read the second book - but it just came out and it's listed as $14.99. Which is an OBSCENE amount of money for an e-book. So - I wait. :)
