really liked it
Read from August 05 to 06, 2012

Another win for Junot Diaz with a series of interrelated (mostly) stories about Yunior's search for love, and his attempts to deal with his cultural, familial and personal past. Sometimes hysterical, sometimes abysmally depressing, each story wrestles with love, memory and self-sabotage. Diaz's voice is electric, and reading his work is like watching him tight-rope walk between the twin towers of cultural identity and personal identity. His mixture of modes and levels of diction always works, is always real, and is always dazzling. Especially well-wrought is the final story in the collection, "The Cheater's Guide to Love" (recently published in the July 23rd issue of the New Yorker).

Coming out in September/October but review copies are available now. Looks like short stories. Should be awesome.
