The style was just a bit over the top with insider jokes, witty asides in brackets, and too wise-for-their-years characters. And it really lost me when one of the protagonists, Navy SEAL, assaults an al quaeda house in Afghanistan with "an M-14 at his shoulder". The M-14 went away during Vietnam, I trained in the US with it but used an M-16 in-country. The M-14 is still used at times but never as a close combat assault weapon. A clearly check-able fact that wasn't.
