bookshelves: young-adult, the-stupid-it-burns, dystopia, romance
Read in July, 2012

Such a total mess, I actually encourage others to read it. A fairy tale mashed up with The Bachelor, with some some dystopia (and, WOW, am I ever using that term loosely here) thrown in 'cause that's what the kids are into lately. We've got a ridiculously MarySue heroine, an incredibly poorly-written, stilted, why-am-I-supposed-to-like-this-guy-again? hero, and enough stereotypes, lacking descriptions, and insane word choices to make one's head spin. There's creepy misogyny! Rulers that are too stupid to live! Foreshadowing you'd have to be in a coma to miss! And now I see the author and publisher fall into that wacky camp of YA creators that don't realize reviews are for other readers, and that poor reviews are from people who're jus' jellus? Awesome! The other 1 and 2 star reviews really explain the problems with this book more than I care to.
