Storm Front (The Dresden Files, #1)

Storm Front is the first of The Dresden Files. Harry Dresden is a wizard and a private investigator and works with the police on cases involving the supernatural and the unnatural. He is not well liked by his colleagues in the police who all seem to think that he is a massive fraud, and he is not that popular with a lot of the Wizarding people as well due to events that took place before the novels began.
The book is a quick and satisfying read and keeps the readers interest throughout. It is written from the point of view of the lead character and contains an awful lot of very black humour. The stories are set in a very real America where the supernatural exists alongside the natural but isn’t really noticed by people who do not have an interest of an affinity for that sort of thing.
Like a lot of urban fantasy what is more interesting is the other world of the supernatural that exist in these stories which are always very different in each universe. Storm Front is no different to the many other urban fantasy novels in that sense and there is a distinctive world that exists behind the scenes in these novels which I hope we will learn more about in subsequent volumes.
The book does stand up as a single volume in its own right, but I can see that there could be much better stuff to come.
