I picked this up because John Grisham was interviewed in the documentary "Hot Coffee" and said the book was loosely based on the story of a friend of his who was a supreme court judge in Mississippi. Very loosely based is right. The characters are stand-ins for ideas. The hard-working trial lawyers fighting the bad corporations. I don't have a problem with that if you can make the characters into individuals you can care about or despise, but this characters never ever come alive. And the ending, while realistic in today's society, is very disappointing in the fictional universe in which this book resides. If you want to know what corporations are doing to our judicial system, watch "Hot Coffee" and skip this novel.
