It had too much unnecessary dialogue between characters that may or may not have been important. The whole issue with the social standing and expectations and what they considered polite and what they didn't...I'm not into that at all. Emma was said to be clever, but I found her rude and selfish, and her book was dull. Boring, honestly. There was hardly enough romance for the people who like that sort of thing, and no action or adventure, and zero mystery or suspense. In a way, it's too happy, though some of the characters here and there are disappointed, but only temporarily.
Basically, it was too long for its own good. Summarize it to ten or twenty pages and that would be enough.
