This is a deliciously fun fantasy for fans of fractured fairy tales such as The Goose Girl and Ella Enchanted. Emmeline Thistle survives an upbringing as harsh as any Dickens hero's to eventually discover that she possesses the power--thought to be lost and mourned greatly by her countrymen in the fantasy medievalesque kingdom where she lives--to create chocolate. She also has a strange affinity for cows. There is a sweet romance and plenty of suspense and action. I recommend reading it with a good supply of chocolate on hand. This review refers to an uncorrected advance proof copy of the novel obtained by request from the publisher through netgalley.com.
Expected publication date for this book is August 21, 2012.
