What a gem this book is, eh? A band of rabbits flees an unknown terror in their warren, adventuring across unknown pastures to try and establish a new warren at Watership Down. Lessons are learned! Rabbit culture is conveyed! Myths are told! Hand to hand rabbit combat occurs!

One thing I thought I observed reading this book was how well paced it seemed to be for a developing reader. The plotting and character introductions are simple at the beginning of the book, but grow more complex as the narrative draws the reader on. Soon the rabbits are telling their own fables within the larger story, and eventually multiple narrators are introduced. By the end, if you've kept up, you're reading a more sophisticated book than the one you started off with.
