One thing I liked about this sequel is Alma Katsu did not recap the first book, The Taker, constantly. I appreciated her assumption that the reader is intelligent enough to be able to move to the next "chapter" without the constant reminders of a book already read.
This was an excellent sequel. It improved on the flaws of its predecessor. It didn't drag the way the first of the trilogy had the tendency to do. It had much better character development. Especially Adair, i found I had almost Stockholm Syndrom with him, hating him while being intrigued and falling "in love" with him at the same time. He is really a great character.
I can't wait for the conclusion. It seems Alma almost got her feet wet in the first book, but really found her swimming legs in this second of the trilogy.
