This was my first Keri Arthur book and since I got it for review I decided I would give it a try rather than trying to read the first two first (too many books to read!). It's hard to know if a series is going to be your thing and quite often the first in a series is a bit overwhelming with all the world building. So this was different for me since it wasn't the first. But surprisingly I never felt confused. I know that I didn't fully understand everything, but we got enough back-story and description that it went quite smoothly for me.

I really enjoyed the characters and Risa has a strong and memorable personality that I really enjoyed. She has snark and sass and speaks her mind. And she's totally kick ass. I loved all the side characters as well and was happy with how things went. I'm anxious to get to know her friends more because they weren't very present in this one, but I can see that they are very important in the whole of the series and in Risa's life.

The romance was good, but I think I would have felt it a bit more if I had read the previous books. I didn't have the build up of tension that I think was present, but I just didn't have enough time to see it. To feel it. But I really liked the love interest. At least the one of them. ;) Yes, there are a few different love interests, but there's one in particular that I really liked.

Overall this was a fabulous series! I really fell in love with the crazy world and I now know that I need to go back to the beginning and start with the Riley Jensen books (which I own) and read through those before starting Risa's story and continuing on.

This is definitely an adult book as there is sex, language and violence.
