The basic facts of this whodunit are easy enough to guess, but it’s still a good mystery. It’s even better as a story of friendship and family. I especially like the relationship between Connor and his half-sister Margaret.

I wonder why the police aren’t more involved. Connor’s best friend is being held in custody, while an unexplained investigation and loosely defined psychoanalysis play out somewhere behind the scenes. But that kind of detail would very likely clog the story. Konigsburg drops all threats of clutter, in favor of a very quick, clean and fun narrative. She’s one of my favorite authors. And this is one more reason why.
