It's good but wow is it ever long. I can certainly see why it was initially released as three books.

The trouble is that Josephine was not present at most of the significant moments of her life. There is a lot of reading about how she just got a letter with horrible/amazing/interesting/ghastly news. I also had a similar complaint to other Goodreaders, which is that you are looking through her eyes the entire time. This is not the book that gives you an idea of who Josephine *was*, it's about what happened to her. I still liked it though. I stalled out around the end of Book 2 and I will probably go back and polish it off someday.
