This book should be called "My Life and a Few Priceless Lessons on Writing". It is engaging enough to read and very interesting. Having never read even one sentence of Stephen King's prose before I found his writing style to be excellent. I can see why he is such a successful writer. I did find his life stories very interesting and amusing, but they weren't exactly "On Writing".

When he DID get to the portion of advice to aspiring writers the information was FANTASTIC. Very concise, clear and helpful. He uses examples to illustrate his points and I came away with some really useful direction and thoughts about the process. This information could have been condensed into a 30 page leaflet and I would have been extremely happy. It's not that his back story isn't engaging, it is, it just wasn't what I expected considering how the book was billed.

As long as you know, going into reading this, that you're getting a lot of biography along with the advice for writers, you'll be happy.

Note: This book contains quite a few uses of the F word and other profanity.
