[audio book edition] A good general intro to the British Empire, from the start in the 17th century through the post WW2 dissolution.
Definitely fall in the general/popular history category. The author has a neo-conservative reputation so I was watching out for anything outrageous. I think he did a pretty good job talking about the bad and some of the good part of Imperialism. Some of the PRO argument for imperialism is imo fair, but might not be popular with some (i.e. "what have the Romans ever done for us?")
