The Pigeon Pie Mystery

I received an advance copy of this book in a Goodreads First Reads giveaway, and I absolutely loved it. Julia Stewart writes with wit and flair. Set in Victorian England, the backdrop is rich and interesting. The book begins with the tragic loss of Princess Alexandrina's father, and from the start you feel sympathy for the characters as life as they know it comes to a screaching halt. A necessary move to the country introduces the supporting cast and the beginning of the mystery. The characters and predicaments in this book had me laughing out loud many times. The dialogue was very enjoyable to read, and although it was at times difficult for me to keep some of the names straight, there was a listing of people and their corresponding quirks at the front of the book that helped a great deal. It did indeed keep me guessing until the very last. Over all, quite a lovely read. I look forward to passing it on.
