While all of TenNapel's books manage to mix a family themes with wacky fantasy, this one for me went a touch beyond his norm by tackling some bigger ideas of good & evil. When the nasty kid next door, Marcus, steals the device to make his own living cardboard creations you can't help but wonder what makes his creations evil? Simply because Marcus did them? I don't think the question is fully answered, but the fact that it's there makes this my favorite TenNapel book yet...and I've loved them all so far.
