When I read the first few of chapters of this book, I was telling myself "Oh no, I picked up a teen or young adult novel". Soon after that, I was totally sucked into the story and would say that this is probably one the very few best novels I've read in recent years. The plot may be simple and appear ordinary, but the story was masterfully told and it was so moving and powerful. Small details in this wonderful book were abundant (but not overly) and they reminded me of what love is, and how it comes in many forms. Brunt is a master story-teller who writes as if she has been doing this forever, but as a matter of fact this was only her very first novel. The last authors who impressed me with a debut novel were Elizabeth Kostova (it had been years) and Tea Obreht, and I am so glad that I picked up this book by Carol Rifka Brunt.
