Untouchable is not a book I would have chosen. It came to me as a "Why not" choice. I was very moved by the characters. Whitly, a 6th grader who is referred to in the book simply as The Kid, is having a hard time dealing with the death of his mother. His father, Darby, is also not handling his wife's death at all well. As a result the two are completely unable to communicate with each other. The Kid is also having to face daily bullying at school. He is unable to tell anyone, he is unable to talk at all. He hasn't spoken in over a year. I won't give away much more than that. It was painful to read this story. As a mother I so wanted to comfort this child and force his father to get help for the two of them. I did like the final outcome. They do find healing but it was tough to get there.
