This one bothered me even more than the first book. It seems like every aspect is included just for the sake of being salacious - in particular the rampant sexual abuse and forced genetic testing (aka torture), although none of it is described very specifically. I guess I just think that if you're going to write a dystopia where some awful things happen on a regular basis, there should be some point to it other than "look at how shitty things are" (like some sort of social commentary, which seems completely absent to me).

Although I suppose those who like this series more than I do would say I just missed the point. And I do have to say that as a teen, the salaciousness would have been a draw for me.

I discuss this a bit more coherently in my post at the blog: http://www.stackedbooks.org/2012/07/c...
