3.5 The underbelly, gruesome air of war mixed with beautiful, lyrical descriptions of artistry with an underlying scandal highlight this somberly written piece immersed in wartime. Overwhelming sadness bleeds through the text into the main characters. Pat Barker puts true emotion into her words and paragraphs weaving a very dramatic story. Well done. Kelly Holland Amy I think you win in all time first-reads. I've never seen anyone with so many!

Amy Eve wrote: "I was excited to read this, but didn't think it's be so sad! I own the first book of this series-Life Class. I think I'll get cracking on it."

That was my impression from the events surrounding Elinor, Toby, Paul and Neville. I'm interested in what you think after you've finished. I didn't read the first one. I'd like to go back and read it now to get more of the chatracters back story.
