Luanne Rice has been one of my favorite authors for many years. I believe that this book is her most mature/sophisticated book with a complex plot and characters.

I enjoyed:
Learning about landmarks in NYC, especially those that involved Central Park and natural settings such as bogs.

Learning about professional birdwatchers/ornitholgists and the vast variety of birds.

The Scandanavian setting for portions of the book. I know that there has been a "Scandanavian trend" that involves crime/suspence/mystery for several years. Rice's focus was different; I found her descriptions of Norse gods and other traditional myths to be fascinating. I was glad that Danish phrases were also included.

I have always associated Luanne Rice with respect for the environment, animal rights and mysticism in addition to powerful female characters. My expectations were met once again with "Little Night"
