This is the first book of one of those series (The Deed of Paksenarrion) that I read back in the day and had good memories of so when I saw it on sale at so I decided to buy it. I have to say it didn't do much for me this time around. It's a good story, as we see the life of an ordinary soldier with glimpses of something more to her that one assumes will be revealed in later books. However, it was overly descriptive in a lot of places and the story got bogged down. If I had the other books sitting on my shelf I think I would read them but I don't feel like going out and buying them and I certainly don't want to continue with it in audiobook form. The narrator didn't help the story at all.
