It's okay. The idea and the story are very good. The writing is fine. But with so much material, I feel as if the author lets the book fall a bit flat. Everything is half completed. The story of his grandfather and his connections to the place are not really followed up in depth. He had mystery journals, he had a psuedo-adopted son...oh well, seems to be the authors attitude. Then there are his interactions with the locals, they are told rather deadpan when they could be down right laugh out load. Next, we have the house itself and thevissyesvwith the mobster---oh ha ha hs I own his la, Next, we do t hear much about what's going on with the wife.... Is she really such a bystander. Over and over I thought, wow he has soooo much to wok with but doesn't execute the story in way that really makes it pop for the reader. It's just kinda so-so.....
