Loved this book! McDonald has gone into some unexplored territory here, an area that really needs to be included in YA fiction more often. Yes, you will fall in love, yes; you will have your heart broken. Things don't always work out the way we wish so OK what will you do next? You'll get over it. You'll get over it but you may need to work at it. You'll get over it and you'll grow from the experience. And you'll get by with a little help from your friends (once you recognize them). I hate to say it's slightly reminiscent of "Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants" because this is very much its own book and plot, but there is that women-supporting-women element in it; something I'm happy to see more of in a YA fiction landscape crowded with lonely girls, mean girls and bad-ass girls.
The characters in this are flawed, endearing and well drawn; you'll swear you know them. I loved the hip coffee shop setting. Funny, charming, straight-shooting. I'm looking for more books by this author and definitely recommending this to the girls at our high school.
