My library had a whole shelf of a bunch of this book and I picked it up because i liked Kingsolver's the Poisonwood Bible. But this book is not about her being an author. It's about her being a regular person, a sort of memoir, written with collaborations by her husband and oldest daughter. They move from AZ to their summer farm, but now full time. they decide to grow all their food and only eat what they can grow or get locally. She goes through each month, detailing what's going on on the farm, interspersing with information about food, locavores, organics, etc. Her daughter includes recipes in each chapter of things they make at that time of the year. This book has a lot of information, kind of hidden in their story, and made me want to eat even more fruits and veggies. I do try to eat organic, local things, and i was so happy that i live in CA where things seem to always be growing. I also realized how fortunate i was to have parents who made us a big garden each year, and took us picking local produce in season. I've always known what things were in season, well, back in new england at least...i'm still confused by CA seasons. so many people have no idea what plants different foods come from, or how to eat them, or what they taste like. If you're interested in food or nutrition, check out this book. I even sent my mom a copy!
