A Wanted Man (Jack Reacher, #17)
by Lee Child
by Lee Child
I read an interview with Lee Child a few years ago, and he said his books were often based around numbers. Since then I have noticed that they are indeed. He uses maths in all his books. A Wanted Man is full of numbers, equations, statistics, miles, etc. I am always amazed at the wide readership of his books too. He has a very distinct way of writing that seems to appeal to 99% of the reading public.
In a Wanted Man, Jack Reacher is hitching a ride to Virginia. He is picked up by 2 men and a woman. It soon becomes apparent that they are lying to him about something, and in true JR style, he is in the middle of something big. Excellent, loved it!

Hi Alex
I am absolutely amazed at all the negativity about Cruise playing Reacher! To me, Lee Child has created a character that is unique, in that no Hollywood actor is going to be the perfect man. I am trusting that the magic of Hollywood will prevail and Cruise will look the part (although in the previews of the film I thought he did look a bit small compared to the other guys!), and Tom Cruise is an action guy, if people could only get past his personal life!
A friend of mine is also an author and he said at the last panel he was on with Lee Child, all the audience wanted to talk about was Cruise/Reacher. Give the guy a break I say and let the movie speak for itself.

I agree. It's kind of cruel to insist Cruise can't play Reacher just because he's not tall. I tried to think of a well-known actor who is very tall and buff that would seem right in the role and the closest I could come was Daniel Craig, but somehow even he didn't seem quite right, and may have already been committed to another film. I see Tom as a person who would stop and help someone on the street in real life, so I'm going to give him a break and I'm very happy for Lee Child that he's got one of his books made into a movie.

I just finished reading A Wanted Man, and I also gave it 5 stars. I was shocked to see how many readers didn't like the book. I thought it was one of Lee's best. I read someone's strong review (5 stars) who said their theory on why people are dunning the book is due to the upset about Tom Cruise playing Jack Reacher. What do you think of it all?
