it was amazing

This modern classic should be required reading in every secondary school in the country. Lewis captures the essence of evangelical American Christianity, its inherent hypocrisy, and its stranglehold among the working classes. Elmer Gantry is both a charlatan and a Svengali, a predator and a victim of his own gift. Very rarely is fiction successful in edifying the reading public in ways which defy other genres. This is an example of fiction at its very best and most effective.
