This story focuses on Marshall, a WWII veteran shot down over occupied France. After retirement he goes to France indefinitely, with the idea of trying to find the French citizens who sheltered him and snuck him out of the country to safety. As a result, much of the WWII action is told through Marshall's memories of it, or through character's account of their experiences to one another. This really didn't do much for me - I would have rather just had a first-person, real-time account of the French resistance aid to American aviators.
