The Yellow Birds

This was very interesting and well-written, if hard to read at times. It's the story of two very young Army soldiers and their experiences in Iraq. The story shifts back and forth in time a little bit, primarily between their time while deployed and after. From what I have read and heard in the news and others sources about combat stress, PTSD and the like, this felt very true to life, to the point where I sometimes had to remind myself that it was a novel and not a work of nonfiction. In addition to the story itself, there was something about the writing style that made me feel as though I was being pulled along as fast as the main character was, without any real time to reflect on what had just happened, or was about to happen.
