This was an interesting story. The protagonist, Gabriella, is a physician in 16th century Venice. Her father, also a doctor, leaves the family behind to undertake a trip to learn about new diseases and cures for a book he is writing. His letters home become more sporadic and stranger, and Gabriellla eventually leaves home to travel along the route he took in order to try and find him. I thought Gabriella was an interesting character - certainly unconventional for the time! There was one plot point that I thought wasn't handled all that well, but you could make an argument for it's plausibility as written. Overall I quite enjoyed this and I recommend that anyone who enjoys historical fiction pick up a copy.
