Rose Mary As a woman it is hard to imagine being subjected the way the women in this novel are. They must wear the dreaded bruka which allows very little in one's view of the world. Rukhsana is a young journalist who is helping her cousins become cricket players--it will be their way to escape from Afghanistan. She is also anxious to leave the country as a high-ranking Talib wants her as a wife. It is a world, thannkfully, that we don't have to face. While the book is fictional, it feels so real and one gets emotionally involved with the characters and all the challenges they face.
