Although science fiction is probably not the best category, this book had some sci-fi elements that place it there. I found this a solid, engaging book. The characters were appealing and believable--I find it amusing (as an SCA member of 23 years) that re-enactors and history buffs could have such a major influence on a post-apocalypse world (positive and negative).

The gist of the book is simple--electricity, batteries, and guns cease to work all at once--and the world has to survive from there. We never find out why this happens, and I thought that was a nice twist.

There are some predicable events, but overall, a pleasant read with good research and fairly elegant phrasing.
