it was amazing
bookshelves: mystery, classics
Read from June 27 to 30, 2012

I'd been meaning to read the Sherlock series for quite some time, and I can absolutely say that I'm glad I finally took the plunge. The book read surprisingly quickly, and I was instantly engrossed even though I've seen all the movie and television adaptations.

For being an older series of books, the language was not at all.difficult to follow and the diction was quite pleasing to me. I cannot wait to pick up the next book!

I will, however, admit that I wasn't a huge a fan of the omniscient passage in the middle of the book. It threw me off at first because I didn't understand the sudden change. The previous story involving Watson and Holmes had found its conclusion but hadn't been succinctly wrapped up yet, but the new thread went on for so long that I was afraid Doyle wouldn't finish the first story. Once it all tied together, I was much more pleased, but it still felt like an odd sort of diversion to me.
