Great kid's book. I had minor quibbles with a little of the plot, and the actual writing was maybe not five star worthy, but the book on the whole was excellent. I love the mix of drawings and words, and the way that the drawings often slowly progress toward more detail, almost like a movie zooming in for effect. And Selznick was inspired by viewing a real automaton- an 18th century machine that draws and writes- and provides a web address at the end where you can watch videos of the machine in action, which was great. I think this would have been one of my favorites had it been around when I was a kid.
