At 15 years old, Kid has been living on the streets of Brooklyn for over a year, finding beauty in the grittiness of it all: the spaces between dusk and dark, sweet friends with complex problems, shelter found in dangerous places, making peace with harsh memories. My favorite thing about this book is that Kid's gender and the gender of Kid's companion are never defined nor discussed. Labels simply have no place in this book.
