I am really glad that my sister recommended this book several years ago and that we've been (mostly) following Dave's advice since. It has made the current "deleveraging" of the financial system much less scary knowing that we are living frugally and the emergency fund is mostly in place.
We call this the get rich slowly book. There are no new ideas or fantastic writing. Just a simple layout of a plan on how to get out of debt, stay out of debt, and live in financial security. There are lots (too many, even) success stories
to motivate you. Like most self-help books, the majority of the text has the purpose of motivating/selling you on the system.
I like to suggest this book to people when they make fun of my 17-year-old car. As Dave says, "Live like no one else, so eventually you can live like no one else".
