Lilly i love your new picture! i remember gobbling this book up; a friend told me it was like a trash novel but would count towards the classics we had to read, and he was right. let me know what you think!

I think that description of it is fairly accurate. It does have elements of a trash novel (Steinbeck seems to have had an encyclopedic knowledge of whorehouses.) And yet it has the feeling of a national Epic. Like all of human moral history replayed in the American West. But at the same time it's made up of these wonderful small intimate moments.

i love your new picture!

Thanks. It was taken shortly before you met me. I've aged terribly in the last few years.

Dave Russell You've just made Sarah very happy.

I know, even after she trashed The Great Gatsby.

RandomAnthony Hell yes. This is a great book, one of the best American novels ever...

Gary I agree with RandonAnthony. It is a great book, but I also think GRAPES OF WRATH,and MICE OF MEN is right up there too. I have read, and reread GRAPES numerous times!
