This story is fun to read with all the neat sound effects for the thunder. The little girl has a very smart grandmother, or Babushka, because by having her help collect the ingredients to make the thunder cake she is distracted, and not really thinking about the storm that really scares her. This book has many lessons in it, such as, facing your fears, learning about thunder storms, and baking a cake. I like how her Babushka is dressed, shows how people from Europe dressed back in the early 1900's. The little girl's Babushka reminds me of my grandmother, we called her Madie. I like how all the illustrations have animals in them. Good story to read when doing a unit on weather, fears, or cooking.

Learning Experience:
After reading the book, discuss all the ingredients the little girl and her Babushka collected and bake your own thunder cake. Not only will you make a cake, but everyone can help bring in the ingredients, help with measuring, and best of all eating the cake.
