I read this book on holiday and I'm afraid that's where I left it, knowing I wouldn't want to read it again.
The story is excellently written and Parsons shows a great empathy for the women in Harry's life. But the main character infuriated me to such an extent, I found it difficult to read.
There are some nice touches to the book. Seven-year-old Pat's Star Wars obsession (not shared with his new step father who prefers Harry Potter) for example and his mother's handling of breast cancer is very well done but in general I found the novel overwhelmingly depressing. If this is an insight into a modern man's mind then God help us all.
I'm not sure I would recommend this book to anyone really.
