Brad Okay, so let me give you a bit of backstory on me. First of all, I am a sucker for books and almost always end up with above average ratings. I love the genre, having grown up reading fantasy novels and playing D&D. This book meant well and has some very interesting ideas, but to me the final product is only mediocre. The world is vividly described, as are the features and attributes of the characters. But the characters to me come off as flat and uninteresting. The main character (presumably our ongoing "hero") to me is endless whining, afraid, and unsure of himself. For god's sake, grow a backbone man or don't be the hero! I am sure the author did this intentionally, and in the beginning it worked. But by the end, he was still coming off as inadequate and unsure and basically lucks into his victory without having to show courage or any real fortitude. Books 2-11 are not on my short list to read, and may not even make my long list.
