I really liked Gillian Flynn's first novel, "Sharp Objects", and I reasonably enjoyed her second, "Dark Places". GG was compelling and kept me reading for an entire Sunday. I've been thinking about it since I finished it last evening. I know people are all mad about the ending, but I think it's sort of genius. The more I think about it, the more I love it. I love that none of the characters are really likable. It takes talent to write a book knowing people aren't going to like your characters. Flynn made you want to keep reading and to see how the miserable people were going to fare.
If they make a movie version of this and they don't cast Chris Messina as Nick, I'm going to be pissed.
