1/3 through: I am not particularly into this book so far, mostly because it seems really dated. The ridiculous swinging-oriented English countryside sex is at best unappealing, which was probably intentional but doesn't make me want to keep reading. It's also really obvious there was no AIDS epidemic at this point in time.

Ok, after having finished: it was pretty well done but not my style. I am just not interested in a book so totally driven by a character I don't care about. In ref. my initial comments: Maurice, the narrator, does in fact have lots of ridiculous "let's have a threesome!" and "I drank half a bottle of scotch!" issues all the time, and it's not appealing, but it's also clear that this is done for characterization, to make him an unreliable or questionably reliable narrator. It's an ok book, but I remain uninterested.
