This is a well-done book documenting the way in which horses were introduced to the Native American people. It also covers the way horses were integrated into the lives of the Plains tribes. Dorothy Hinshaw Patent is from Montana, so she tends to emphasize the Montana tribes: Blackfoot, Crow, and Shoshone, but does give mention to many others. I felt that she perhaps glossed over the Sioux (Dakota, Lakota and Nakota) tribes although they did cover a large area of the northern plains (but perhaps they were not really horse-tribes).
There is also wonderful photography and artwork in this book. An excellent book for libraries.
