I'd put this novel off for a few years after having such a love/hate relationship with her Twilight series. I really didn't even know what it was about until I finally started to read it. I was completely surprised at how well-written, mature, complex, and exciting The Host ended up being! The dual perspectives of Melanie and Wanda, trapped in the same body, had the potential to be unbelievable or annoying. Thankfully, it was neither of those. Instead, I loved the way they worked they fought one another, then after many trials, came to love one another as sisters. The only thing I could have done without was the final portion of the book *SPOILER ALERT!!!* when Wanda is reinserted within the body of a young girl. I actually think, though sad, Wanda's choice to sacrifice herself and die would have been a better, bittersweet ending. If there are more Host books on the horizon, I'll definitely be reading them.
