really liked it

I really liked this book. All the more so because the multi-million dollar heist at Boston's Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and the theft of 13 famous works of art has never been solved and is in the news again. Shapiro's book revolves around painter Clair Roth, who happens to paint very good reproductions of famous paintings, especially those done by Edgar Degas. Five of Degas' works were stolen from the Gardner in the 1990 theft. The author includes a lot of art history and a facsinating glimpse into the art of forgery. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy the books of Susan Vreeland and Tracy Chevalier.
