it was amazing
bookshelves: speculative-fiction
read count: 1

After meeting the charming and erudite Ms. Carriger at the World Steam Expo, I knew I had to read her work. Her delightful presentations at the convention, however did not prepare me to enjoy her novels as much as I have. I am most comfortable encountering vampires, werewolves and ghosts in more threatening situations so I was concerned these comic novels would disrespect the supernatural tropes I know and love. On the contrary, the Parasol Protectorate is a series of well written, charmingly witty tales constructed in a relatively consistently built world. And there's sex, at least a bit, demurely presented of course as would befit the faux Victorian / steampunk milieu. Perhaps they're not brain taxing and perhaps they don't demand a second reading to plum the depths of their theme, but the novels of the parasol protectorate series are perfect summer time reads.
