Bruce Clothier I read this book when I was a boy and reread it to this day. It deals with Jefferson Davis Bussey's experiences in the American Civil War. He enlists in the Union infantry, gets transferred to the cavalry, fights a battle with the artillery and ends up as a scout behind enemy lines where he lives with the 'enemy' while trying to figure out how to get back to his own side. The story takes place in the Cherokee Nation in the Oklahoma Territory and he meets and falls in love with a rebel Cherokee girl named Lucy Washbourne. The book is one of my favorite historical fiction reads of all time and I highly recommend it for everyone.
