I liked the book. I thought the format, jumping back and forth in time, was interesting, and suited to the story. Most of the characters were not as likable as I might have wished, but they weren't so repulsive that I couldn't stand them, either. Mostly, they were fairly human. Pete, certainly, was very believable. So was Julie. What I did not like was the fact that we never learn anything about the Tesslies. What they are (aliens? humans? robots?) or their motivations or how in the world they came to be. That, to me was the major flaw of the book. Other than that, I would say it's pretty good.
