The most enjoyable book I have read in a long time. This historical fiction tells of two parallel stories, one of a modern day writer and the other of her orphaned ancestor living during the Jacobite rebellion in the early 1700s. I didn't know anything about the events of this time period in Scotland (England and France) and was grateful the author stuck so closely with the history and actual people so that I could gain a history lesson too. I am fascinated by the loyalty that so many courageous people in history have felt towards causes, kings, and country that is presented in this story. I loved her descriptions of Scotland which seemed to transport me to the coastal cliffs and gray skies. Her characters were strong, good, and likable which made for two great love stories. There was one event towards the end that bothered me and seemed out-of-character that, although I didn't like, didn't ruin the story for me.

Mindi I loved this book too. The Rose Garden by the same author was similar and a great read!

Emily Thanks for the recommendation.
